Alla francesca & Discantus - Brigitte Lesne - CmmP

Reed and brass band from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance

The wind instruments Alta trio is characteristic of the formation in alta capella (two reeds and one brass), described by the theorist and composer Johannes Tinctoris (1435-1511). These high instruments (‘high’ to understand here in the sense of strong, powerful) were particularly popular during the festive situations or more solemn celebrations: dances, banquets, tournaments, royal encounters ...

Gli atti col dançar… / Johannes Ciconia (1370-1412)

TRIO Alta
Pierre Boragno / shawm, bagpipes, recorders, tambour
Béatrice Delpierre / shawm, dulcian, recorders
Gilles Rapin
/ slide trumpet, cornet

Alta performs in concert, or in several successive sets, both outdoors, in the heritage sites (castles, museums ...) and festivals to discover this music and these rare instruments. He regularly joins forces with Alla francesca and / or Discantus ensembles, covering entire range of sound of medieval music (vocals, strings, and winds high and low). Among the concert programs that brought them together: the Ball of the Burning Men (a news item in 1393 concerns the figure of Charles VI, including Parisian music, punctuated with chronics and poems told by René Zosso) ; The City of Paris, street, palace, church (Parisian music in the 13th century) ; in 1465, the incredible journey of Leon Rosmital (music in Europe in the 15th century).
We can hear the trio together with Alla francesca in two recordings: Johannes Ciconia and Armes, amours.
Each member of Alta is also a member or guest soloist of the best early music French groups, Renaissance or Baroque, and has an important educational activity.
Depending on the program, other artists may participate to the concerts:
Michèle Vandenbroucque / shawm, dulcian
Pierre Hamon / bagpipes, recorders
Bruno Caillat / percussion
Michèle Claude / percussion
